CGT Desk User Guide

A start-to-finish workflow for setting up an entity file, importing transactions, reconciling holdings and exporting workpapers.

1. Create an entity file

Select United States, United Kingdom or Australia, then enter entity name, type, FY Ending Month and reporting information. Choose where the .cgtdesk file should be saved.

2. Create accounts and statements

Create brokerages, exchanges, wallets, properties and other locations. Register statement periods and references so transactions and valuations can be supported later.

3. Import transactions

Open Excel / CSV Import. Review heading mappings and the live normalized preview before importing. Mandatory mappings include Transaction Date, Action, Share / Asset Code and Quantity.

4. Review and correct

Resolve validation errors and possible duplicates before committing the import. Manual entry supports buy, sell, opening balance, transfer, crypto swap, reward, staking, mining, airdrop, fork, income, dividend, return of capital, fee, adjustment and split actions.

5. Year-end values and reconciliation

Enter market values for open assets and reconcile calculated quantities and values to external statements. Unresolved differences appear in review and readiness checks.

6. Reports and export

Use Report Center to choose the report, financial year, detail level, scope, filters, grouping and supporting schedules. Preview the package before exporting PDF or Excel.

7. Financial-year changes

Administration > Preferences can change FY Ending Month. After saving, review Year-End Values, report years, reconciliation dates and historical comparisons. Source transactions remain unchanged.
