Backup & Recovery

How CGT Desk chooses working-file locations, creates backup snapshots and supports manual recovery.

Save location

Creating a file opens a native Save As dialog. The user chooses the working .cgtdesk location.

Backup folders

Backup triggers

  • Initial file creation
  • File-open snapshot
  • Automatic save
  • Manual Save & Backup
  • Before import
  • Before close when saved
  • Save As

Draft retention

Automatic: 25. Manual: 15. Other reasons: 10.

Manual recovery

  1. Close CGT Desk.
  2. Open the backup folder.
  3. Choose the most recent known-good backup.
  4. Copy it to a safe location.
  5. Rename the copy if desired.
  6. Open the copied .cgtdesk file.

Do not overwrite the only backup during recovery.
