Dimensions & Branches

A second way to slice every number beyond the Chart of Accounts — and one dimension, Branch, that comes with its own security model.

Dimensions

Beyond the Chart of Accounts, LedgerDesk supports unlimited custom dimensions for slicing your numbers a second way — by Class, Location, Department, Project, Cost Center, Region, Fund, Grant, Job, Division, or any custom dimension you define.

  • Lists → [Dimension name] to create, rename, reorder, or (de)activate values.
  • Choose whether a dimension appears during transaction entry at all — no need to show fields you don't use.
  • Bulk Reclassify changes the account and/or dimension on many existing transactions at once, filtered by date, transaction type, and source account(s).

Branch — a dimension with its own permissions

Branch is a special dimension for businesses with multiple locations or entities under one company file. When it's active:

  • Transaction entry marks Branch as a required field, shown with an asterisk.
  • Three dedicated permissions control access separately from other dimensions: View all Branches, Create and manage Branches, and Bulk reclassify Branch assignments— set from Company → Users & Security → permission profiles. This lets you give a location manager visibility into only their own branch's numbers.
  • Reports gain a Report by Branch selector to filter to All Branches, Unassigned, or one/several specific branches, with an option to include inactive branches.

Reports by Branch

A dedicated report group offers branch-scoped versions of the core reports:
